Harriet E. (Musgrave) Brubaker

BARBERTON -- Harriet E. Brubaker (nee Musgrave) passed away surrounded by family on Tuesday, January 26, 2010 at age 89.

She was born September 9, 1920 in Athens, Ohio to Walter E. and Della O. (Black) Musgrave. She graduated from Athens High School in 1938 and from Ohio University in 1942 with a degree in art education. She was recruited by the Babcock and Wilcox Company, Barberton, Ohio, to be a draftsman and dedicated four years of service. There, she met her husband of 66 years, Budd B. Brubaker. She enjoyed art, piano, traveling, bowling, gardening and caring for her family.

She is survived by her daughter, Susan C. (Robert) Plank; granddaughter, Jill S. Plank; grandson, Todd R. (Jennifer) Plank and great-granddaughter, Hadley Rose Plank; brother, Eldon W. (Del) Musgrave. She was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Budd B. Brubaker and sister-in-law, Patricia Musgrave.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Home, 566 W. Park Avenue, Barberton, Ohio 44203. Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jerry Penrod officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.
BARBERTON -- Budd B. Brubaker passed away peacefully after a brief illness on Sunday, January 24, 2010 at age 90.

He was born in Barberton, Ohio on May 14, 1919 to Sylvenis G. and Mildred M. (Snyder) Brubaker. He graduated from Barberton High School in January 1937, president of his class. He had enjoyed planning yearly reunions for his classmates. In his early years, he delivered groceries for Ward and Grace Lightfoot. He joined Babcock and Wilcox Company in 1940 and retired after 42 years of service. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, bowling, wood-working and reading westerns. He was a member of Barberton Lodge #750 F&AM and was a friend to everyone.

He was survived by his wife of 66 years, Harriet E. Brubaker, and is survived by daughter, Susan C. (Robert) Plank; granddaughter, Jill S. Plank; grandson, Todd R. (Jennifer) Plank and great-granddaughter, Hadley Rose Plank; brother, Grant C. (Carol) Brubaker; sister-in-law, Eileen Brubaker. He was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald S. Brubaker and his sister, Mary Ellen (Everett) Kratzer.

The family will receive friends on Friday, January 29, 2010 from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Campfield-Hickman-Collier Funeral Home, 566 W. Park Avenue, Barberton, Ohio 44203, where Masonic services will be conducted at 7:30 p.m. Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2010 at 11 a.m., with Rev. Jerry Penrod officiating. Entombment at Greenlawn Memorial Park.

James C. Sparks "Sparky"

James C. Sparks "Sparky", departed this life January 17, 2010 and awoke in his Heavenly home, after a courageous battle with cancer. He will be missed by all that knew him.

Sparky was born May 27, 1942 to Dail and Margaret (Nemer) Sparks. He retired from Aircraft Braking with 35 years service, where he met most of his dearest friends as a painter. He owned "Sparks Auto Sales and Service" , and he always had a love of cars and enjoyed going to auctions. He was known to be truly a Man of his Word, a loyal friend to many, always being the first to reach out to help his family and friends. He was a member of Barberton Masonic Lodge #750 F & AM, Tadmor Shrine, Akron Orioles, Eagles #555 and Barberton Moose.

He was a kind hearted, loving person who always thought of everyone. His grandchildren were his world, and he thoroughly enjoyed spoiling them. He was able to have a wonderful vacation in the mountains of Georgia this past summer with his family, since he has always had a love for the Smokey Mountains and childhood memories there.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 48 years, Patricia (Surgen); daughter, Debra (Ed) Steinbacher; grandson, Tanner; granddaughter, Kennedy, both of which he idolized and who lovingly called him "Pappa".

He also leaves stepson, Frank (Becky) Freshwater and family; his "older" sister, Anita (Ron) Gauthier; "younger" sister, Sandy (David) Davenport, many nieces and nephews. His closest friends, JHH, Rev. John, Jim, Bill, Gary, Elmer, Rusty, Ron and Al. He thought the world of all of you.

Funeral services at the Prentice Funeral Home, 1154 Kenmore Blvd. Thursday at 11:00 A.M. with Rev. Ernie Kemppel officiating. Interment at Greenlawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home from 5 to 8 P.M. TONIGHT, where Barberton Lodge will conduct Masonic Services at 7:00 P.M. In Lieu of flowers, he wishes for donations to be made to the Shriners Children's Hospitals.

Charles Eugene Beckle "Chuck"

Charles 'Chuck' Eugene Beckle, age 79, passed away Dec. 6, 2009.

He was born Dec. 24, 1929, retired from B&W with 23 years of service and was member of Barberton No.750.

He is survived by wife of 33 years, Juanita; his children, Lynett (Skip) Perren, Bruce (Ellen) Beckle, Teri Beck, Paul R. Beck; grandchildren, Jessica McCoy, Rhonda Regan, Joleen Sitko, Tory Perren, Alyssa Beck; great-grandchildren, Emma, Paige, Max, Ellie, Addie, Drake, Sky, Aira, Bree and his dog, 'Wendy.'

Rev. Paul D. Dunn( Raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on March 26,1965)

Dr. Paul David Dunn, 94, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Sunday, December 13, 2009, after a sudden illness.

Paul was born in Youngstown, Ohio on August 19, 1915. Paul was a pastor for 47 years in the Evangelical Congregational Church denomination. After graduating from Toccoa Falls Bible College, Toccoa Falls, Georgia in 1937, he began his ministry at the age of 22 often being referred to as 'The Boy Preacher.' He received his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1945 from the University of Findlay, his Master of Divinity degree from Winebrenner Theological Seminary in 1948, and an honorary doctorate from Winebrenner Theological Seminary in 1963. He served churches in Cedarville, Illinois; Afolkey, Illinois; Findlay, Ohio; Columbus, Ohio, and Akron, Ohio. In 1955 he was elected Conference Superintendent of the Eastern District of the Western Conference of the Evangelical Congregational church and served in that position for a total of 16 years throughout his ministry. He served on the Board of Christian Education for the Evangelical Congregational Church and was the first Camp Director for the denomination's youth camp, Camp ECCO in Carrollton, Ohio. He retired from the ministry in 1984 but accepted a position with Manchester Trinity Church as interim pastor where he served for three years. He was an active member and faithfully attended Akron First Evangelical Congregational Church in Firestone Park where he served from1947-1952 and again from 1964-1976. Paul was an avid golfer and member/founder of the Akron First Golf League started in 1957. He was able to play until age 90 and made his first hole in one at 80.

His parents George and Margaret, brothers John, Tom, George, Bill, Ray, and sister Harriet precede him in death. He is survived by Helen, his loving and devoted wife of 68 years; son, Joe; daughter, Julie, (Jim) Beltz; grandsons, Ryan Beltz, Tyler Dunn, Matthew Lowdermilk and granddaughter, Brittany Lowdermilk; daughter-in-law, Deanna Dunn; sister-in-law, Donna Nelson and brother-in-law, Wayne Nelson of Statesville, North Carolina; special nieces, Jane Wagner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Vicki Kleckler of Lena, Illinois, and Laurie Gregg of Roscoe, Illinois as well as many other nieces, nephews, and great-nieces and nephews, brother, Robert of Zephyrhills, Florida; and long-time friends from the Second Milers Sunday School class.

BARBERTON -- Darrell F. "Fred" Powell, 75, passed away Tuesday, November 24, 2009.

A life resident of Barberton, he was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Korean Conflict and also served in the National Guard. Fred retired from the Ohio Brass, he was a member of Barberton Lodge #750 F&AM for 48 years, serving as Worshipful Master in 1979, 32nd degree Scottish Rite, Valley of Akron, Anna Dean Chapter #595 OES and also a member of Yusef Khan Grotto.

Preceded in death by his father, Caleb Powell; mother, Kathryn Powell Millhoff; step-father, Roy Millhoff; sisters, Rosalie Williams and Gloria Cosgrove and his wife, Rose; Fred is survived by daughters, Robin (Mike) Nerone and Valerie Ison; son, Darrell Powell; grandchildren, Shaun (Jessi) Ison, Christopher (Sara) Ison, Joshua (Becca) Ison, Corey Ison and Katelyn Powell; great-grandchildren, Tessa Ison, Landon Ison, Karter Ison and Hunter Ison; brother, Larry (Sally) Powell.

Rolland Earl Marstiller "Ron"

BARBERTON -- Rolland Earl (Ron) Marstiller, 92, passed away Friday, November 6, 2009.

Born in Elkins, W. Virginia, he was a resident of the Barberton and Akron area since 1954, retired from Bernard Construction and was a member of Barberton Lodge #750 F&AM.

Preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth "Betty" Marstiller (June 27, 2009); Ron is survived by son, Dwight Linger Jr.; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild and brother, Howard Marstiller of W. Va.
